Cleaning schedule template to print

You print the schedule and use a pen to write in who does what. It is ordered by how often something is due, not by the days of the week.

Each task gets a circle per week. That suits everything that comes round once a week or less.

Or press Ctrl+P, or on a phone use “Share” and then “Print”. To get a PDF, choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialogue, or on an iPhone use “Share”. Only the sheet is printed.

In the moj app a task comes back when its interval is up.

Why by interval rather than by weekday?

Because a weekday plan only works as long as no week gets in the way. The usual cleaning schedule spreads seven tasks over seven days. After a week of holiday, Tuesday has been missed and the next one is already taken. Two weeks later the plan is just decoration.

An interval forgives that: the bathroom every seven days, the windows every six months. All that counts is the date in the “Last done” column. The interval starts again from there, whatever day it is today.

That is exactly how moj handles a recurring task. It is also why a task there doesn’t disappear when it is skipped once.

What can’t the template do?

The “Last done” column is only as good as the hand that fills it in. And filling it in is exactly what stops after three weeks. Paper doesn’t keep count, and it doesn’t ask either.

The task list, switchable at the top between "Open" and "Recurring". The tasks are grouped under Overdue, Today, Tomorrow and Later, and two of them show the initial of the person whose turn it is.
On the sheet each interval has a section of its own. In the app each task appears under the day it falls due, and nobody fills in “Last done”.

Short answers

What belongs in a cleaning schedule?

Four intervals, and under each one whatever is due that often. Every day that means wiping the kitchen, the dishes and the litter tray. Every week it is the bathroom, hoovering, laundry and taking the bins out. Every two weeks it is mopping, bed linen and mirrors. Every month it is the fridge, the inside of the windows and the drains. Add the two columns most plans forget: who does it and when it was last done.

What needs cleaning every week?

In most households four things: the bathroom, hoovering, laundry and the bins. Everything else can wait longer. Doing something every week that would be fine every two weeks is the most common reason a cleaning schedule is still on the door a month later with nobody looking at it.

Why is the cleaning schedule not sorted by weekday?

Because one week of holiday knocks a weekday plan over. If you miss a Tuesday, you can’t find your way back in. After two weeks nobody looks at it any more. An interval forgives that. A task is due when it is due.

How often should each thing be cleaned?

Your household decides that, not the template. The examples under each heading are a starting point. Pets, children or an old house with lots of windows change every line.

How do we split the plan in a house share?

That is what the “Who” column is for. Write names in it, not weekdays. Then a swap stays between the two people involved. It doesn’t mean changing the whole plan.

Does moj do this too?

Yes. A recurring task in moj has an interval instead of a weekday. It appears when it is due, with the person responsible. If someone misses a week, it carries over instead of disappearing.
