Members

What someone can do in your family space depends on their role. There are four, and an admin changes them. When someone leaves, everything stays behind except what was “Only me”.

Which roles are there?

There are four. Every member has exactly one, and it applies across the whole family space:

  • Admin. Can do everything an adult can. On top of that, an admin changes roles, removes members and deletes the family space.
  • Adult. Sees and changes everything meant for everyone and everything in their own household. Invites people, adds people and households, and changes the settings.
  • Caregiver. For grandparents or a babysitter. Sees the calendar, shopping list and tasks and adds to them for everyone. Receipts, ideas and settings stay closed.
  • Child. Sees the shopping list, tasks and calendar and joins in there. Receipts, ideas and goals stay closed.

What each role sees in detail is set out in Who sees what.

What can only an admin do?

Only an admin can do three things: change roles, remove members and delete the family space. Any adult can do everything else, including inviting people and adding households.

The first admin is whoever created the family space. There can be several. If you live in two households, make both parents admins. That way nothing depends on one person.

How do you change a role?

Open the person’s page under “Family”. As an admin you will see a “Membership” section there, with a “Role” line. Choose “Admin”, “Adult”, “Caregiver” or “Child”.

Only admins see this section. The last admin can only give up the role once someone else is an admin. Otherwise moj says “You’re the only admin. Make someone else an admin first.”

How do you invite someone who is already in moj?

You invite them from their own page. If Grandma Ilse is already in moj, perhaps with her birthday, open her page under “Family” and tap “Invite”. The line below it reads “Grandma Ilse gets an account and stays the same person”.

You choose the role and share the link. It only works for her, and only once. Her appointments and her birthday then belong to her account.

The general link from “Invite” is for new people. If Grandma Ilse accepts that one, she ends up in moj twice. She would then also see gift ideas meant for her. A general link works for up to ten people, all with the same role and in the same household. One link per household is therefore enough.

What happens when someone moves?

If a member moves to another household, open the new household under “Family”. It has “Move in here” with a “Move” button. Only an admin moves an adult or a helper. The household decides what someone sees. Any adult may move a child’s phone.

After that the member sees what the new household sees. Whatever they wrote themselves or appear in comes with them. The old household keeps it as well. Everything else stays with the old household until somebody sets it to “Everyone”.

For a child, moving only changes where their shopping goes. If they lived in both households before, they still do afterwards.

What happens when someone is removed?

Only an admin can remove someone, using “Remove from the family” on the person’s page. The confirmation says what happens next: “What was filed for everyone stays. What was ‘Only me’ is deleted.”

In addition:

  • The person stays in moj, just without an account. Their appointments and birthday therefore stay. An adult then appears under “Not around right now”. moj stops sending reminders for their birthday and no longer asks who is taking them anywhere.
  • Tasks that were an adult’s are open again. moj then asks “Who takes it?”. moj takes them out of every rota, and it is the next person’s turn. A child keeps their tasks and their place in the rotas. moj then reminds the adults of the child’s tasks.
  • Their invitations stop working. Their WhatsApp number no longer writes into this space.
  • Their addresses for the calendar subscription and the kitchen display stop working. The others’ addresses keep working, because every adult has their own.
  • A calendar from outside that they added just for themselves goes with them. One that names others too, such as the nursery’s, stays with you.
  • A child account is closed completely. The child’s phone is signed out straight away.

Nobody else is notified. If the person comes back later with a new invitation, they become the same person again.

How do you leave the family yourself?

In Settings, tap “Leave this family”. After that you no longer see anything from this family space, and the others keep everything. The same rules apply as for a removal: your “Only me” entries disappear with you.

If you are the only admin, moj asks who takes over as you leave. The adult who used moj most recently is chosen. You can choose someone else. Whoever takes over is told.

If no other adult is in the space, the family space ends with you. That goes for the helpers and children’s phones in it too, and moj says so first. For 30 days you can bring it back. You do that on “Your family space” or in Settings.

A child can’t leave the family on their own. An admin does that. If a child deletes their account under “Delete account”, their membership still ends. Their phone then needs a new code from you.

If you bought moj Plus, the subscription keeps running. You have to cancel it yourself in the App Store. There is more on this under moj Plus.

What doesn’t work with members?

No rights per person. There are four roles, not a table of permissions for each individual.

No adult in two households. An adult member lives in exactly one. Children and people without an account can live in several.

No email address for a child account. A child signs in with a code from their parents. An address can’t be added later. Write to us if a child needs an account with their own address.

Short answers

Can there be more than one admin?

Yes. An admin can make someone an admin on that person’s page under “Family”. If you live in two households, two admins are the safe choice.

What can only an admin do?

Change roles, remove members and delete the family space. Any adult can do everything else, including inviting people.

Grandma is already in moj. How does she become a member?

Tap “Invite” on her own page under “Family”. The link only works for her, and she stays the same person. The general link would create a second Grandma.

What stays when someone leaves the family?

Everything that was filed for everyone. Anything that was “Only me” disappears with them. Their person stays, without an account, and their tasks are open again. moj takes them out of every rota. It also stops sending reminders for their birthday.

Is anyone told when a new member joins?

No. The new member simply shows up among the members under “Family”.
