How does moj get onto your child’s phone?
It gets there with a code from you, and no email address is needed. Open the child’s page under “Family” and tap “Set up a phone”. moj then shows a code and a QR code. If the child isn’t in moj yet, first add them as “A child of ours”.
On the child’s phone, tap “I have a code from my parents” when signing in. The code is valid for 10 minutes and can only be used once. There is more on this in Signing in and the code.
The phone then belongs to the household of whoever set it up. Anything the child adds to the shopping list goes there too.
A child’s phone belongs to exactly one family space. If the child lives in two families with a space each, moj can be on the phone for only one of them. If you sign the phone in again with a code from the second space, it belongs there afterwards. The first space can no longer reach it.
What can a child do with moj?
- See: the shopping list, the checklists, the tasks and the calendar.
- Add: shopping, entries on a checklist and tasks for themselves.
- Tick off: shopping and every task they are on, even as the second person.
- Send: text and voice messages, in the app and on WhatsApp.
A child doesn’t see receipts, ideas, goals or notes. The family’s settings stay closed to them too.
What does moj say when a child isn’t allowed to do something?
If Mo writes “Cinema with Tim on Saturday”, that is an appointment. Only adults can add one. On WhatsApp moj then replies “Only adults can file that in moj. Shopping items and your own tasks are welcome.” In the app it says “Understood, but only the grown-ups can add that in your family.”
The parents get no notification. In History, under Settings, the message appears with the line “Nothing came of it. Mo is not allowed to do that.” The quickest way, then, is for Mo to tell you directly.
moj doesn’t accept photos or PDFs from a child. It says so rather than quietly losing them.
How does a child undo something?
A child can’t use “undo”. moj replies “In your family, the grown-ups take things back.”
In the app it still works. The child opens a shopping item or one of their own tasks and deletes it there. The adults take back everything else.
What does moj remind a child of?
moj reminds a child of their own appointments and tasks, and only once they have switched reminders on. The “Reminders” line in Settings starts off. The child switches it on from their own phone.
A child only gets notifications about what concerns them: an appointment they are going to, or a task that is theirs. The child doesn’t hear about what the parents plan between themselves. How it works for adults is explained in When moj reminds you.
What do you do if your child’s phone gets lost?
Under “Family”, open the child’s page and tap “Sign out the phone” under “Set up a phone”. The lost phone then shows the sign-in. The child stays in the family, with their tasks and appointments.
For the next phone, “Set up a phone” shows a new code. The phone uses it to sign in to the same account, and everything is back.
What doesn’t work on a child’s phone?
No appointments from the child. A child can only read the calendar.
No photos or documents. A child sends text and voice messages.
No email address. If the child gets signed out, they need a new code from you. An address can’t be added later.
